Equality or Equity?

Differentiation in the classroom is an important skill for teachers to give learners the best chance at learning, regardless of their strengths and weaknesses!

We as teachers and facilitators, first have to identify the environment we are providing to our learners. Equity should be focused than Equality because equality only works if every learner starts from the same place which seldom happens. Every classroom has mixed ability learners.

  1. A perfect piece of analogy you have used here, this concept is frequently marred by our misconception related to these two terms, both are important in their own ways.We as teachers and school leaders need to understand the difference between the two and their implications in the learning process. who would like to talk a bit more about this?

  4. Equity is more like having differentiated instructions in the classroom but equality is a traditional classroom with one size fits all kind of instructions. To get maximum output we must practice differentiated learning but first we need to equip our teachers. A novice teacher hardly knows the term what to say of practice. Moreover, the baseline for differentiation is to know your learner...My question is do we know our learners enough?
